It was a pitchers duel on a fantastic Sunday afternoon in Toronto, but Evan Longoria’s two RBI afternoon lead the Tampa Bay Rays to a 2-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays as the Rays take two of three from their divisional rival.

The Rays gave starting pitcher Chris Archer the early run support he would need as Tampa Bay was swinging early in counts and were able to get on the scoreboard first.  Following a Ben Zobrist double and a Matt Joyce walk where ball four was a wild pitch, Evan Longoria hustled to first beating an inning ending double play attempt to put the Rays ahead 1-0.

Archer was in control for the entire game against the Blue Jays lineup where not one Blue Jays hitter made it past second base till the bottom of the fifth inning.  Archer ran into trouble in the seventh inning following back to back singles by Dioner Navarro and Colby Ramus setting things up for Juan Francisco.  Francisco tied the game with a sacrifice fly to right as the game would head to extra innings.

Evan Longoria continued his hot hitting this season with runners in scoring position with an RBI double in the top of the tenth inning putting the Rays ahead 2-1.  Longoria came into the game leading the team hitting .306 with runners in scoring position.

Brad Boxberger sealed his second save of the season in the tenth inning.  Jake McGee gets his fourth win of the season pitching two innings of scoreless ball.  Chris Archer went toe to toe with Blue Jays starter Drew Hutchinson pitching seven innings allowing a run on six hits with six strikeouts.

The Rays will now head to Baltimore for a crucial four game series against the Orioles.  You can catch all the action on WDAE beginning Monday night at 6:30pm as Jake Odorizzi takes the mound against Baltimore starter Chris Tillman.
