Injury Updates on Myers, Peralta, Hanigan

Posted July 26th, 2014 @ 12:49pm by Darek Sharp

The on-field results have been overwhelmingly positive for the Rays of late, and it continued in the off-the-field category on Friday.

Three key members of the squad are all recovering well from their injuries. After there was concern that Joel Peralta had contacted the rare chikungunya virus, that has been discounted. In addition outfielder Wil Myers and catcher Ryan Hanigan are progressing well from the conditions that have them currently on the Disabled List.

Matt Baker of the Tampa Bay Times posted THIS update on all three players.

Joel Peralta appears ready to return when eligible early next week. It's still unknown why he fell ill, but whatever the virus was it has cleared up.

Peralta in fact will pitch for the Rays' Class A squad Charlotte in Dunedin Saturday.

Meanwhile Hanigan, whose recovery period from a strained oblique was never spelled out by the team, ran the bases at Tropicana Field Friday and according to manager Joe Maddon is close to being back in the lineup.

Myers (wrist) finally took swings off a tee Friday, something he hadn't done since begging hurt in late May. He is reported to be on track for a mid-August return.
