TAMPA, Fla. (970 WFLA) – A suspect is charged with aggravated assault (hate crime), shooting from a vehicle and criminal mischief after an incident at a Tampa gas station, according to Tampa Police.

Police say it all started early Thursday just after midnight when the suspect came inside a gas station at N. 30th Street and E. Fowler Avenue, got into an argument with the victim and made ethnic slurs to the victim who is Arabic. When the victim told the suspect to leave, police say he got into his SUV, pulled out of the parking space and stopped in front of the store firing three shots and drove off.

Police say they stopped the suspect at E. Fletcher Avenue and Magnolia Drive and two pistols could be seen in plain view inside the jeep along with an AR-15 assault rifle and ‘a lot of military equipment’ in the back of the SUV.

Not knowing exactly what else was inside the vehicle, police say they called in the bomb team to search the SUV.

Police identified the suspect arrested as 29-year-old Clay Sidney Allred of Tampa.

No one was injured.
