REPORT: Montoyo To Interview For Reds Manager

ST. PETERSBURG (620 WDAE) -- After over two decades with the Tampa Bay Rays organization, bench coach Charlie Montoyo may get an opportunity to manage his own Major League club.

C. Trent Rosencrans of The Athletic reports that Montoyo will interview this week for the open managerial post of the Cincinnati Reds.

Montoyo joined the Rays organization in 1997 as the manager of the Appalachian League (rookie-level) Princeton Devil Rays, and managed at Hudson Valley (short-season A), Charleston (low-A), Bakersfield (high-A), before spending four seasons as the manager at Double-A Orlando and Montgomery (2003-2006) eight seasons as the manager of the Durham Bulls, winning seven division champioships and Governors Cup titles in 2009 and 2013.

Montoyo joined manager Kevin Cash's major league staff in 2015 as third base coach, and transitioned to bench coach this season.
