Hillsborough County Jail Inmate Dies

Tampa, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Detectives investigate the death of an inmate of the Falkenburg Road Jail. Mauricio Blanco, Jr. became unresponsive just before 6 p.m. Saturday, according to a news release from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. Jail medical staff and responders from Hillsborough County Fire Rescue stabilized Blanco, and took him to Brandon Regional Hospital, where he died at about 7:20 p.m. The medical examiner will determine how he died, according to the release.

Tampa Police had arrested Blanco November 23 on charges that included of battery on a law enforcement officer and possession of more than 20g of marijuana. Blanco was out on bond on another pot possession charge at the time, according to the news release, and the new offenses revoked his bond.
