New Survey... Florida Dead Last in Volunteer Service

WASHINGTON, DC (970 WFLA) -- They call "Tennessee" the "Volunteer State"... and Florida could be the ANTI-volunteer state.

A new survey on charity by Wallethub finds our state is dead last in volunteer service. Analyst Jill Gonzalez says about 20 percent of Floridians volunteer... that rate is less than Mississippi.

Gonzalez says that unlike many states, high school age Floridians don't pick up the habit of service, because we don't make it a requirement for graduation.

According to the Wallethub study, Minnesota is tops in charity, Utah leads in volunteering... and Gonzalez claims blue states are more generous than red states.

The "Most Charitable States" study looked at 18 key indicators of charitable behavior.
