DUI Suspect Crashes Into Deputy, Dies in Brandon

Brandon, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A man suspected of drunk driving died after causing two crashes early Saturday, including a rear-ending of a deputy's cruiser, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.

Jesse Lamar Wood, 25, crashed into the back of the HCSO vehicle driven by Sgt. James Jackson on State Road 60 at Limona Rd. at around 2:10 a.m., according to a news release from the Sheriff's Office. Wood drove away from the crash scene in his 2010 Hyundai Elantra without stopping. The crash incapacitated Jackson's vehicle and no one pursued Wood.

Wood lost control of his car on Limona as he crossed the railroad grade just north of Victoria St., the news release said. The car rolled onto its side and Wood, who did not wear his seatbelt, died at the scene. Deputies suspect alcohol involvement. Sgt. Jackson was unhurt.
