Investigators were called to a home near Skyway Drive and Goodyear Avenue in unincorporated Lakeland Thursday. Investigators say Jennifer Anne Finley-Manning called her mother and said her husband was abusing her. The mother contacted deputies.
When they arrived, investigators say the suspect fired a shotgun at deputies at least five times. After hearing a muffled sixth shot, deputies went into the home and found the suspect dead.
Deputies were able to safely grab a 13-year-old in the yard, but Finley-Manning and her 14-year-old son were not in the house. The sheriff's office has not released any further information about the two.
The name of the suspect has not been released. No deputies were injured.
