Polk County Deputies En Route to Panhandle

Bartow, Fla. (970 WFLA Staff) - Another team of Polk County Sheriff's Office Deputies and support personnel left Saturday morning to help with hurricane relief efforts in the Florida Panhandle, the Sheriff's Office said.

This team will replace the first PCSO group which went north October 11 with Polk Fire Rescue personnel, support staff and a caravan of equipment, according to a news release from the PCSO. Their gear included mobile command centers, mobile kitchen, mobile bunks, generators, water tanks, fuel trucks along with the PCSO's swamp buggy, airboat, surface drive boat and ATVs.

The first team worked first in Bonifay in Holmes County before going to Chipley in Washington County. Those in Chipley return to Polk County Sunday, the PCSO said, adding that its hurricane relief teams "are organized to be self-sufficient and self-sustaining, with wide-ranging capabilities." The second team staged at Bartow Municipal Airport, where Sheriff Grady Judd saw them off.
