Victim Identified In Howard-Frankland Crash

Police Lights

Pinellas County, Fla. (Newsradio970 WFLA) - The Howard Frankland Bridge is open after the northbound lanes were shut after a deadly crash caused by a wrong-way driver.

The Florida Highway Patrol has identified the wrong-way driver as 46 year-old Renard Antonio McGriff of Pinellas Park.  Troopers say McGriff was travelling southbound in the northbound lanes when he collided head-on with a van.  A third vehicle was also hit.

McGriff was killed at the scene.  Troopers are still investigating and say alcohol may have been involved.

The closing of the northbound span of the Frankland caused backups and delays. There were also delays on the Gandy Bridge as motorists tried to get around the mess.
