Fleeing Kidnapping Suspect Dies in Odessa Crash

Odessa, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A kidnapping suspect speeding way from pursuing deputies crashed head-on into a pickup truck and died Saturday night, the Florida Highway Patrol said. 

Pasco County deputies chased Michael Blomberg, 54, westbound on State Road 54 at about 9:50 p.m. when Blomberg, driving in the eastbound lanes, collided with a pickup truck driven by Kirby Sober, 24, of Holiday near Odessa Gardens Lane, according to a news release from the FHP.

Blomberg died later at a a hospital. Sober suffered serious injuries, troopers said. 

The pursuit started after an altercation between a man and woman at a gas station near the entrance to the Ballantrae subdivision on State Road 54. The clerk saw it and called 911, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office said. It gave no other details.
