NHC: Hurricane to Threaten Florida

Tallahassee, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Governor Scott has declared a state of emergency for counties in the panhandle and big bend areas in response to a tropical system forecast to threaten Florida this coming week.

The declaration aims to ensure "that state and local government has ample time, resources and flexibility to get prepared for this storm," according to a news release.

The National Hurricane Center forecast the storm to become Tropical Storm Michael sometime Sunday and strengthen into a hurricane by Wednesday. Its current forecast track takes it to the panhandle sometime between Wednesday and Thursday.
