Hillsborough Deputies Collect Unwanted Guns

TAMPA (970 WFLA) --  Hillsborough Sheriff's Deputies are trading guns for cash... and a little bit of baseball.

Starting at 9 Saturday (6th) morning and going till two this afternoon, deputies will be taking unwanted guns from people at two locations... in front of the Falkenburg Road jail in east Tampa and the Hillsborough County West Service Unit on Sheldon Road near Linebaugh.

The Tampa Bay Rays have donated 5,000 tickets... and people leaving guns behind will get a voucher good for two tickets while they last... as well as $50 cash... while it lasts.

It's the first gun swap by Hillsborough deputies in five years. The last one in February 2013 collected more than 2500 firearms, including 11 that were stolen and hundreds that were otherwise illegal.
