Lakeland City Commissioner Shoots A Man To Death

Lakeland, Fla. (970 WFLA)-A man attempting to steal  a hatchet from a Lakeland Army Navy Surplus store is dead,  shot and killed by  the stores owner.  

Michael Dunn is a Lakeland City Commissioner,  and the owner of the Vets Army Navy Surplus store on North Florida Avenue.  According to police, Dunn confronted 50 year old Cristobel Lopez as he was walking out the door with the hatchet  and asked him if he was going to pay for it, a fight started and that's when Dunn shot Lopez,  who was still holding the hatchet.  Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene.     The State Attorney's Office is investigating.

Dunn was once investigated for firing a hollow point bullet out of his house, which struck a man in the elbow.  He was cleared of any wrongdoing.
