St. Petersburg Officer Injured After Driver Hits Patrol Car

St. Petersburg, Fla. (970 WFLA)- A driver hit a St. Petersburg Police patrol car last night injuring the officer inside. 

 Police tell us it happened just after 9 pm, the officer was helping the fire department and Duke Energy, while they repaired some down power lines, diverting traffic near Melrose Avenue South and 31st Street. 

She was sitting in her patrol car with her emergency lights flashing, when 67 year old Harry Fields crashed his Lexas into the parked patrol car.  

The unidentified officer  had to be extricated from her cruiser.  She has non-life threatening injuries and is in stable condition at the hospital. 

Charges are pending.
