Pinellas Co. Deputy Fired After DUI Arrest

Dunedin, Fla. (970 WFLA) - The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office fired a veteran deputy after his arrest on a DUI charge early Saturday, it said.

Corporal James R. Miller, 50, was drunk when he crashed his vehicle into a tree and a telephone pole on Bayshore Blvd. at about 2:45 a.m., deputies said. Deputies smelled alcohol on Miller and said he performed poorly on field sobriety tests before a breath test revealed a BRAC of .124/.121., close to three times the legal limit, according to a news release from the PCSO.

The Sheriff's Office fired Miller after his arrest, which is standard policy, it said. Miller had worked there since September of 2001, most recently as a corporal in the patrol operations bureau, the same unit whose deputies arrested him, the news release said.
