Former Clearwater Police Chief Dies

Clearwater, Fla.-(Newsradio 970 WFLA)-Willis D. Booth, who served as Clearwater's chief of police for eleven years, has died at the age of 93.

Booth joined the Clearwater Police Department as a patrolman back in 1947.  Booth was then promoted to sergeant just two years later and made captain in 1953. Booth became chief in 1957 and served in that capacity until 1968.

Booth later became assistant director of what is now known as the Florida Department of Law Enforcement until 1984. Booth also served as executive director of the Florida Police Chiefs Association from 1984 to 1991. Booth was named to the Florida Law Enforcement Officers Hall of Fame.

Booth was born in Safety Harbor and graduated from Clearwater High School.
