Two Hit And Runs Under Investigation In Polk

Galloway Rd. hit and run scene

Lakeland, Fla.-(Newsradio 970 WFLA)-Polk County deputies are following up on two hit and run crashes at the same place on Galloway Road, near Kathleeen.

Deputies say 40 year-old Kelly Marie Black of Polk City was hit by a vehicle as she was riding a scooter. A soldier, stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, stopped to help.  Deputies say both Private Kalen Lawson and Black were hit by yet another vehicle.  That vehicle also failed to stop.

Deputies say Black was killed and Private Lawson suffered a serious leg injury.  Lawson is at Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center, but is expected to survive.

Deputies say they've been in touch with the driver of the first vehicle involved in the crashes.  He's been identified as 28 year-old Corey Wesley Jones of Lakeland.  Investigators say Jones is cooperating.

Deputies continue to look for the second hit and run vehicle.  That vehicle is believed to be an early 2000's model white Ford pickup truck.
