Cops: Former Clearwater City Employee Stole $148K

Clearwater, Fla (970 WFLA) - Clearwater Police arrested a former city Parks and Recreation Department supervisor Friday, saying that he stole more than $148,000 from the department.

Robert Carpenter, 58, is accused of taking cash from concessions and rent money from a soccer league that rented fields from the city and keeping it for himself. Police say that another person in the department noticed less revenue that there should have been, and a police investigation began.

Police say Carpenter stole the money over a three-to-four year period, and resigned in March when the police took on the case. He had worked for the city since 1997. He faces one count of Scheming to Defraud, a first-degree felony.
