Local school districts beef up security

Hillsborough school superintendent Jeff Eakins says the district is taking some extra security measures.

He says school principals are being asked to review security procedures and make sure access points around their campuses are secure.

He's also asking students to report any concerning behavior they may observe to teachers or school resource officers.

Eakins says schools will be taking part in a lockdown/evacuation drill next week as a result of the Parkland, Florida high school massacre.

Other local districts are focusing on school safety.  in Sarasota County, for instance, the district says its safety director will soon meet with local law enforcement will reassess school security procedures.
