It was three years in the making.
Tampa International's SkyConnect people mover, which transports passengers to and from the main terminal to the brand new car rental center, is open for business Wednesday morning.
The SkyConnect train travels on nearly two miles of track, a journey that takes about five minutes. It also serves the economy parking garage. And passengers flying domestically can also check their luggage at the car rental center if they're dropping off their car.
The SkyConnect and car rental complex project, which cost nearly $1 billion, completes the first phase of the airport's master plan.
