Hillsborough's Top Prosecutor Gets Tougher on Domestic Abusers

Hillsborough State Attorney Andrew Warren says every day in the U.S., a woman is killed by a domestic partner using a gun.

He says there are laws on the books prohibiting convicted felons from possessing weapons, but tragically, many fall through the cracks.  Which is why Warren says his office will more aggressively enforce existing gun laws.

Warren says state and federal law currently bans anyone convicted of domestic abuse from possessing a weapon.  The same goes for those who have a domestic-related injunction filed against them.  But Warren says his office will take guns away from domestic violence suspects during pre-trial release or even as a condition of a plea deal.
