CLEARWATER OFFICERS STABBED, SUSPECT IN CUSTODY

CLEARWATER, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Three Clearwater Police Officers are recovering this morning after they were stabbed Saturday night while arresting a violent suspect.

The department says 36-year-old Justin Shuford was being aggressive toward citizens that came to the aid of a female being beaten in a marina parking lot on Causeway Boulevard.

When police started taking him into custody, they discovered Shuford was armed with a small knife. Shuford then violently resisted arrest and either stabbed and/or cut three officers before he was finally handcuffed.

Each of the officers sustained minor injuries. They were all treated at a local hospital and released.

Shuford is charged with attempted homicide, two counts of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence, and domestic battery.
