Local Peace Officers Head to Gainesville

TAMPA (970 WFLA) -- Law enforcement officers from around the state are providing additional security in Gainesville for Thursday's speech by white nationalist Richard Spencer at the University of Florida.

The Pasco Sheriff's Office says more than 60 deputies have volunteered to go to Gainesville. The sheriff is also sending a mobile command center. The Pinellas Sheriff's Office is also sending deputies.

The deputies are in Gainesville as part of a mutual aid agreement. Governor Rick Scott declared a state of emergency ahead of Spencer's visit.
