PINELLAS PARK (970 WFLA) -- Police faced down a man with a gun outside his home on the 69 hundred block of 59th Street last night.
Officers talked 52 year old Thomas Owens into giving up his handgun and took him into custody. Then Sergeant Mike Lynch says, they discovered the body of 59 year old Nellie Collins, his live in girlfriend, inside.
"(around 6:15 last night) Owens pulled out a firearm and shot his girlfriend inside the residence", Lynch said. That followed an argument.
Police say Owens also pointed a gun at his sister, 49 year old Tracy Starks, who ran off and called for help. Owens is charged with second degree murder, and possession of a firearm by a felon. Police say they've had to answer other domestic calls at that address.
