Three Men Arrested For Starting Island Fire

St. Petersburg, Fla. (970 WFLA)- Three St. Petersburg men accused of setting an April  brush fire,  have been arrested and charged with intentional burning of lands.

According to the Pinellas Sheriff's report 20 year old Brandon Kholos, 20 year old Adam Grote and 17 year old Aaron Sprague started a campfire on Googe Island within the Weedon Island Preserve, then decided to light palm fronds on fire and hold them up to other palm tree fronds setting them on fire. The fire spread to burn just over 6 acres.

The three did not call 911, instead they left the island and watched the fire burn.   A witness watched the boat with the three on board leave the island, and called St. Petersburg Police.

Deputies say during interviews each man admitted to starting the fire.
