Fire Destroys Scott Lake Home In Lakeland

Bartow, Fla. (970 WFLA ) - A Polk County family is homeless after a fire  destroyed their Lake Point Drive home.

Just after 10 last night,  Polk County Fire Rescue and the Bartow Fire Department arrived and found the 3,759 square foot wood frame home heavily involved in fire.

The winds were strong and blew flames towards the home next door.   A Polk County deputy evacuated the threatened homes before firefighters arrived.  

 The fire was brought under control by midnight.   Five people lived at the home, three adults and two children, all are safe, no one was injured.   The American Red Cross was called to assist the family.

No other homes were severely damaged. 

Investigators from the Bureau of Fire and Arson are working to determine the cause.
