Sarasota, Fla.-(Newsradio 970 WFLA)-A 36 year-old man is facing Aggravated Animal Cruelty charges after he kicked and dragged a puppy around the front yard of a house on 32nd Street.
Sarasota officers say Toddrick Leverett was spotted by witnesses kicking the 6 month-old puppy and then grabbing the dog by the neck and dragging it through the dirt. Officers say the puppy was chained to a tree during the entire attack.
The black and white female pit bull suffered a broken rear left leg. The dog is recovering at a vet clinic after treatment.
Leverett claims the dog attacked him and he was defending himself. Police say Leverett smelled of alcohol when he was arrested.
