Pinellas Mom Sentenced for Baby's Death

A Pinellas judge has sentenced Kathleen Steeel to five years probation after Steele pleaded guilty to leaving a child unattended in a car causing injury.

She had been charged with aggravated manslaughter, but prosecutors filed lesser charges against her.

Last August, the 62 year old went into a cell phone repair shop and left her then-six year old son, his three year old brother and a newborn daughter in the car with the windows rolled up and the car locked.  When she returned, the 13-day-old baby girl was dead.

Investigators say the six year old had beaten her to death to stop her crying.

As part of Steele's sentence, she's required to abide by a family case plan that would allow her to see her two sons, who are currently in separate foster homes.
