Two Pinellas Cities Hold Medicine And I.D. Theft Events

Pinellas County, Fla.-(Newsradio 970 WFLA)-The cities of Saint Petersburg and Clearwater are holding events this weekend to help protect you against identity theft.

You can bring any sensitive documents to the events and they'll be shredded free under the supervision of police officers.  Police say storing old, unwanted documents at home with sensitive personal information is not a good idea as it could lead to I.D. theft.

In addition, police will also be collecting old, unwanted and unused prescription medication for proper disposal.  Officers say throwing old meds in the trash or flushing them down the toilet is not a good thing.

The St. Pete event runs from 9 a.m. to Noon Saturday at the Pinellas County Solid Waste Building on 114th Avenue, North.

The Clearwater event runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Westfield Countryside Mall.
