Clearwater Fire & Rescue and Clearwater Police are on scene of a major accident at Curlew Road and McMullen Booth Road. Clearwater Police are assisting only with traffic control; the Florida Highway Patrol is working the accident. The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is also on scene to assist. The accident happened about 1 a.m. and involved one overturned vehicle and one vehicle on fire. One person was killed and seven were transported to local hospitals -- with multiple trauma alerts and multiple air transports. Clearwater Fire & Rescue was joined on scene by Safety Harbor and Palm Harbor firefighters. All lanes of the intersection are closed at this time. Motorists should plan to find alternative routes. Any information on the accident itself will be forthcoming from the Florida Highway Patrol.
