Fire at Tampa Downtown Hotel

TAMPA (970 WFLA) -- No injuries reported from a dramatic fire that sent flames and smoke from the roof of Tampa's Waterside Marriott Hotel downtown. 

Tampa Fire Rescue says debris left behind by roofers caught fire around 8:00 Thursday evening. Workers tried to put out the fire with extinguishers, unsuccessfully. Firefighters quickly doused the fire, which was confined to a small area of the roof. 

Hotel staff quickly evacuated guests, and no injuries were reported. Guests were allowed to go back to their rooms by 9:20.

Tampa Fire Rescue says that, even though the fire was relatively small, they called a third alarm because of the size of the building and number of occupants. d were able to quickly put out the fire, which was contained to a small area of the roof.
