ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (620 WDAE) -- The Tampa Bay Rays lost some more thump from the middle of their lineup Monday night.

DH Jerry Sands was placed on the 15-day disabled list following Monday's 8-1 loss to Pittsburgh.  The team said Sands has a strained tenson in his left wrist which will require him keeping it immobilized for three weeks.  Sands had appeared in 12 games with the Rays after being selected from Triple-A Durham on June 1, hitting .190 / .227 / .333 with a home run and 4 RBI in 22 plate appearances.

Infielder Cole Figueroa has been recalled from Triple-A Durham to take Sands' place on the active roster.  Figueroa hplayed in seven games with the Rays earlier this season, hitting .250 / .250 / .333 with one run batted in.

Figueroa will join the team for Tuesday's middle game against Pittsburgh.
