Rays manager Joe Maddon stopped by the WDAE broadcast booth at Charlotte Sports Park Friday morning and talked about the talent level within the organization.
Because the Rays have brought in the amount of quality ballplayers that they have, it makes trimming the roster down to 25, the requirement for opening day, a tall order.
"Part of our problem is Andrew (Friedman) and the boys did such a wonderful job at bringing in candidates this year," Maddon said. "It's just chock-full of good baseball players, good people, good personalities, so it's making it a lot more difficult."
Maddon said an important component of the team this year is their maturity level.
"We have a lot of young pros here, guys that have been through the playoffs several years, guys that have been to the World Series a couple years ago in 2008," Maddon said. "Easily, I can easily say we have the kind of professional attitude it takes to do this."
