The Rays are going to have to continue their attempted climb back to .500 without one of their more important pieces.
For the second time this season catcher Ryan Hanigan has been placed on the disabled list. Hanigan has an oblique strain.
The move is retroactive to July 9.
To fill his spot the Rays called up catcher Curt Casali. Hanigan went on the DL in late May with a hamstring injury, which did lead to the Rays calling up pleasant surprise Kevin Kiermaier.
Additionally Thursday the Rays shifted Wil Myers to the disabled list, making room for Casali on the 40-man roster. Myers can't return until July 30 but wasn't expected back until August anyway.
