According to Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times, the Tampa Bay Lightning are on the verge of signing Ryan Callahan to a "long term extension." The report states that the new deal with the Lightning is “imminent" as the 29-year-old was eligible to pursue unrestricted free agency on July 1st.
While the exact terms of the extension are not available, it is believed to be in excess of up to five years and worth as much as $5.5-million per season.
The Lightning acquired Ryan Callahan and two draft picks from the Rangers in exchange for Marty St. Louis on March 5th. Once Callahan's signing is completed by the Bolts, Tampa will send a second-round draft pick to the Rangers to complete the trade.
