It has been nearly a month since the Tampa Bay Lightning traded Captain Martin St. Louis to the New York Rangers in exchange for Rangers Captain Ryan Callahan and a couple of draft picks.  The immediate reaction around the league following the deal was very positive in the direction of the job Steve Yzerman did to get what he got.

The Hockey News columnist Adam Proteau told WDAE’s ‘The Sports Page’ on Tuesday morning that he still believes Yzerman got the best deal he could for an addition for the playoff push.

“When you can have that situation stare you in the face as a General Manager like Steve Yzerman and still come away with an above average if not elite component that you can take into the playoffs with you, you did ok,” said Proteau.

Since the trade Ryan Callahan has scored five goals and amassed nine points while St. Louis has yet to score a goal with only three points.  It is still uncertain however if Callahan will remain with the Lightning past this summer as he will be an unrestricted free agent on the market.  Proteau says Callahan is a Jon Cooper type of player and would fit a role that was needed in Tampa Bay, a defensive minded winger who lets the young scorers around him flourish.
