TAMPA, Fla. (970 WFLA) - As the president asks Congress for billions of dollars to solve the crisis at the border. Florida Senator Marco Rubio says it's going to take a lot more than money to fix a problem that's caused by a number of factors.
“People down in particularly in Honduras and rural areas have been led to believe that if you get here before August of 2014 you’re going to get to legally stay and trafficking groups have actually spread the word and handed out flyers saying that. Combined with the fact that on the border there – it’s known there are areas that you can cross,” Rubio said.
Rubio says the minors that are crossing into the U.S. illegally need to be dealt humanely, but they do need to be returned and reunited with their parents in their home country.
And finally, border security measures need to be put in place as well as interior enforcement like an e-verify system and an entry/exit tracking system.
