Rays Bullpen Wilts As Orioles Take Middle Game

ST. PETERSBURG (620 WDAE) -- Jacob Faria's streak of wins and allowing just one run in a start both came to an end Saturday,

Faria's streak of allowing one run or fewer in a start came to an end in the second inning, as he hit Trey Mancini on a 1-2 pitch, then allowed Wellington Castillo to hit his eighth home run of the year, giving Baltimore a 2-0 lead.

Adam Jones extended the Orioles' lead to 3-0 an inning later, as his fly ball to center was misjudged by Mallex Smith, who allowed it to hit off the top of the wall and bounce over for his 13th home run of the season.

Tampa Bay rallied in the bottom of the third with back-to-back homers from Corey Dickerson and Evan Longoria off Dylan Bundy that tied the game.

Faria would work out of a couple of jams to complete six full innings for the fourth time in his four starts at the big-league level, but Jose Alvarado started the seventh by walking Seth Smith.  Jumbo Diaz then gave up a bunt single to Manny Machado and after a strikeout of Jonathan Schoop, a groundout by Adam Jones that moved the runners up 90 feet.  Mark Trumbo then doubled in both runners to break the tie, and Mancini followed up with a two-run homer that put the game way out of reach and make a loser out of Alvarado (0-3).

Machado finishes the scoring with a sacrifice fly off Diaz in the eighth to make the lead five runs.

Wilson Ramos, making his Rays debut Saturday, finished 1 for 4, with a leadoff single in the bottom of the ninth inning, though he was erased on a double play grounder by Shane Peterson.

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Tampa Bay, as well as Baltimore MLB-record tying 20-game streak of allowing five or more runs in a game.

Tampa Bay will look to take Sunday's rubber match, as Jake Odorizzi (4-3, 3.78 ERA) takes on Chris Tillman (1-5, 8.39 ERA).  First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 Sunday afternoon, with coverage on WDAE beginning at 11:00 Sunday morning with The Inside Pitch presented by Sykes Lakeland.
