Who's Your Daddy: Rays Split Series With Tigers

Jake Faria threw seven innings of one-run baseball, while Tampa Bay Rays hitters blasted four home runs, including two from Logan Morrison to finish out their weekend series in Detroit with a 9-1 blowout of the Tigers, splitting the four-game set.

After pitching into the seventh in each of his first two starts, Faria (3-0) ended up completing seven full frames Sunday, allowing just an RBI single to Justin Upton in the bottom of the first inning.  He allowed six hits total along with a walk and struck out nine, joining Jeremy Hellickson as the only pitchers in franchise history to earn the win in each of their first three career starts.

Tampa Bay got the scoring started in the top if the first inning, as Corey Dickerson reached on an infield single, the first of his three hits on the afternoon, was erased on a fielder's choice by Evan Longoria, and Morrison blasted his first homer of the day and 20th of the year for a 2-0 lead.

The Rays busted the game open in the third, as Derek Norris pushed the lead back to a pair with a solo homer, his eighth of the year, leading off the inning.  Dickerson singled two batters later, with Farmer hitting Longoria with a pitch and walking Morrison on four pitches in front of Steven Souza Jr.  Souza then blasted a grand slam to chase Farmer (2-1) from the game and make the lead 7-1.

Chad Bell relieved Farmer and worked through the seventh, allowing just two runs, on back-to-back solo homers from Longoria and Morrison in the seventh.

Faria was followed by a scoreless inning of relief from Chase Whitley, and a perfect ninth inning from Tommy Hunter to end the game.

The win gives Tampa Bay a .500 road trip, and improves their record overall to 37-35.

The Rays return home to start a six-game homestand Monday with an interleague series against the Cincinnati Reds.  Jake Odorizzi (4-3, 3.77 ERA) will get the start, taking on Scott Feldman (5-5, 4.29 ERA) in  the opener.  First pitch from Tropicana Field is scheduled for 7:10, with coverage on WDAE starting at 6:00 on WDAE with The Inside Pitch presented by Sykes Lakeland.
