State House Speaker Creates Irma Committee

TALLAHASSEE (970 WFLA) -- The Speaker of the Florida House is creating a select committee to figure out what worked and what didn't during Hurricane Irma.

Richard Corcoran of Land O' Lakes says he wants to pay for Irma recovery by cutting out more than 600 million dollars of the state budget used for projects he calls pork. He also wants to look at burying more power lines and creating a seven day strategic fuel reserve.

The Pasco County Republican says he also wants to examine whether nursing homes need more regulations, after eight deaths at a home in Broward County.
