TAMPA, Fla., (970wfla.com) - By a 6-1 vote, Tampa City Council gave preliminary approval to a proposed pot ordinance, one that would require a citation and $75 fine for anyone caught with 20 grams or less of marijuana.
Councilman Charlie Miranda voted against it. He believes those caught possessing a small amount of pot should get help rather than pay a fine....and not beyond the first violation.
Council will hold a second and final public hearing march 17th. If it passes, the ordinance would go into effect in April, but the Tampa Police Department would have to update council on this program twice a year.
