Suspect surrenders after standoff with Tampa Police

TAMPA, Fla. (970 WFLA) – Tampa Police say a suspect surrendered after a standoff with officers late Tuesday.

Police say they were called to the University Oakwood Apartments on the 1200 block of East 113th Avenue when residents called 911 saying they heard shots fired.

When officers arrived, police said an armed suspect fired at one of the officers. He was not injured.

The officers then chased the suspect on foot, the suspect disappeared into an apartment, and then after negotiating for two and half hours, the suspect surrendered, according to a Tampa Police spokesperson.

Two other men, two women and a 3-year-old boy also came out of the apartment, police said, who were not held against their will, but chose to stay in the apartment until the suspect surrendered., police said.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending, police said.
