ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (970 WFLA) – St. Petersburg Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash.

Police said it happened just after 3 a.m. Sunday.

A male pedestrian was struck by a vehicle near the north crosswalk at the intersection of 5th Avenue North and 4th Street, police said and the pedestrian appears to have been walking from the west side of 4th Street heading east. 

Police also said it appears the unknown type vehicle attempted to stop, but impacted the pedestrian, sending him onto the hood and into the windshield before being projected onto the pavement. 

Police said the vehicle then left the scene and that the suspect’s vehicle should have an impact mark in the front windshield.

The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased, police said.
