PINELLAS PARK, Fla. (970 WFLA) – Pinellas Park Police say a gunman is on the loose and a man in his 70s is in the hospital after a shooting around 10:00 a.m. Thursday on the 7000 block of 52nd Street N.
Police say the victim was doing maintenance work on a vacant home for homeowners who were preparing to rent it. While the victim was standing in the side yard, police say a man came up to him while talking on a cell phone, and then talked his way into seeing the inside of the home.
Once inside and alone with the victim, the suspect got out a handgun and demanded money. Then, police say the victim tried to run away and the suspect fired.
Officers say they later found the victim shot in the left arm and was sent to an area hospital as a trauma alert. Police say he is in stable condition
Pinellas County schools were locked down for some time.
Police are still looking for the gunman and say he is considered armed and dangerous.
