Second confirmed rabies case in Polk

POLK COUNTY, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Polk County sheriff's deputies are alerting the community of a second case of rabies this year.

Deputies say on May 7 a bat was found isolated inside a family home on the 1100 block of Clinton Street in Bartow. Animal Control responded, impounded the bat, and sent the body to a state lab for testing where it tested positive for rabies on May 9, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
