Bartow, Fla.-(Newsradio 970 WFLA)-Controversial pastor Terry Jones has been in a Polk County courtroom for his attempt to burn Qurans in a Mulberry city park last September 11.
Jones accepted a plea deal that will keep him from visiting Polk County for at least six months. In exchange, felony charges against the preacher are being dropped.
The court set a plea hearing for Jones for April 22. Jones is expected to enter a guilty plea to a misdemeanor charge of openly carrying a firearm. Once Jones enters the plea, prosecutors promise to drop the felony charge of unlawful conveyance of fuel.
Jones says he agreed to the plea deal because he does not "trust the system" in Polk County. Jones says a trial would have tied up a lot of his time and would have cost more money.
