(970 WFLA) - June is mosquito control awareness month. It’s even more significant now with the rise in mosquito-borne illnesses in Florida, like Dengue Fever and Chikungunya.
Tom Iovino of Pinellas county government says get rid of all that standing water around the house. Iovino says mosquito control technicians have noticed a lot of properties with too much standing water that provides a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes. He urges you to keep your roof gutters clean and get rid of any standing water in flower pots and garbage cans.
Iovino says Pinellas Mosquito Control has stepped up efforts to rid local ponds and puddles of mosquito larvae using what's called larvicide.
