PLANT CITY, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Edward E. Duncan, Jr. has been appointed as the city's new police chief, according to Interim city manager David Sollenberger. 

Officials say the appointment of Duncan as police chief comes after a months-long recruitment and screening process which was facilitated by the Mercer Group, Inc.,

There were 80 applications for the position of police chief. Six candidates made the finalists list.

Chief Duncan will assume leadership of the Plant City Police Department on Monday, July 7, 2014.

Chief Duncan has a long history of law enforcement experience and leadership, including 34 years with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, before retiring in 2012 at the rank of colonel.
