TAMPA, Fla. (970 WFLA) - It's a tough, stressful job with a lot of responsibility. The 911 dispatchers are the vital, first contact with victims in need and Hillsborough County is in need of at least 15 new hires.
Brad Herron is director of operations in the communications center and says the standards are tough and it takes a special kind of person to do the job.
“You’re going to be listening to you know sometimes some pretty horrific stuff, people that have been assaulted, that are being assaulted, that are victims of a crimes that are hunkered down in a closet while someone is ransacking the home, you’re going to get the medical calls, the fire calls, you’re going to get the drownings, you’re going to hear some horrific stuff,” Herron said.
If you think you have what it takes, contact the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
